A Great End to My Summer Break

My husband and I are just finishing a week trip to California to celebrate 26 years of marriage.  Just last week our son was married.  If you have ever had a child get married, it can be a very busy time.  I enjoyed it but this trip was much needed for some down time and to unplug.  Since we are waiting on a flight back to Texas, I thought I would take some time and share some photos with you.  I hope you don’t mind it not being educational today.

This picture was taken at Lake Tahoe.  Beautiful lake and very cold water.

We spend several hours the next day enjoying the lake and traveling the 70+ miles around the entire lake.  One of my favorite views was the castle on the lake.  It is called Vikingsholm Castle.  We didn’t take the mile hike down to it because I was freezing.  We decided to take pictures of the castle from the top of the mountain.  A bit of info:  The drive around the lake takes you through California and into Nevada and back into California.  I think the Nevada sections were the best.

The Castle is on Lake Tahoe in Emerald Bay.  One of the most beautiful places for a castle.  It is one of the most popular places to tour on Lake Tahoe.

We took a few hours yesterday to enjoy laying out by the pool.  It is cold too so we only got in the water for a few seconds and then cover myself in a warm towel.

My husband and I love the mountains and the cooler temperatures during the summer.  We always head north or far from Texas during the hot month of July.  If you love mountains and wonderful scenery, this is a great trip.  It reminded us of our trip to Wyoming and at times our trip to Maine.

One morning, we drove to Muir Woods in San Francisco. It was a very long drive.  It is on the other side of the state from Lake Tahoe.  However, it was well worth the drive to see the redwoods.
 Beautiful trees in Muir Woods

You can’t go to San Francisco and not see the coast while you are there.  We drove Highway 1 along the coast.  It was absolutely beautiful and scary.  The road is curvy and narrow at times.  I had to fight car sickness at some points.  It is very foggy and I think it is most days.  We pulled over and braved the cold winds coming off the coast to snap a few pictures.

The famous Highway 1.

Views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
In the town of Truckee, CA, is the HGTV 2014 Dream Home.  We took a drive to see it but it was in a gated community and they don’t allow visitors.  We tried to sweet talk our way in with our Texas sweetness but it didn’t work.  It doesn’t hurt to try, right?
Even though we didn’t get to tour the HGTV home, the drive there was gorgeous.
I hope you enjoyed a non-educational day today on my blog.
