Do the teachers and students drag themselves into the school building?  Are we happy to get up and go to work each day?  If morale is low, we need to get the positive vibes recharged.  Last year, I shared with you 12 Month-by-Month activities.  They were such a great hit that I created you 12 more activities to do this school year!

This is a great resource right at your finger tips.  We all know we need to increase morale on the campus or at least keep the positive energy going all year long.  However, we get so focused on all the other day-to-day activities that this can just slip by us. 

To make it easy...I created this very easy packet just for you.  Just schedule an activity whenever you think it is necessary and print the activities.  There are 12 activities that are non-theme related.  This allows you the freedom to do it at any time of the year!

Best Days Ever, Upcoming Events!

I just experienced an overwhelming week of happiness.  I don't think I could ever describe to you how much love I was given at the TEPSA 2016 Conference in Austin.  I met some amazing administrators, future administrators and blog followers.

Here's a look at my booth.  The location of my booth couldn't have been better.  TEPSA took very good care of me since this was my first event. 

Instagram and Facebook posts: Picture 1:  A sweet administrator filled my eyes with tears and my heart with joy.
Picture 2: My daughter on FB wrote an amazing and heart felt post about me.  The entire two days were filled with happy tears and overwhelming joyful emotions.
This lady is very special to me.  Cristi Parsons was Texas Distinguished Principal in 2013.  We make it a point to take a selfie each year.  The following year (2014) I was nominated as a finalist in the Top 10 Principals of Texas.  Advice to all principals-surround yourself with strong, growth-minded administrators.  Parsons has a talent for school leadership. Build yourself a circle of friends who have the same passions as you.
This is my buddy and sidekick this week.  She is beginning her first year as a principal and attended the conference.  I couldn't been more happy to be apart of her journey as a school administrator.  She helped me out so much at my booth. 

We made a much needed pit stop in Waco to snap a picture at Magnolia Farms.  L-O-V-E that place.  I hope to go back again because we only stayed about an hour.  We ran through the store and hit the food trucks! YUM.

This was my first year not to actually attend the sessions.  I have been attending TEPSA for many years.  I did miss this part of my trip. 
My design goal was to create a desk display for a male principal and a female principal. 

My binders were a big hit.  
This principal binder (Gold and Floral) stopped a lot of people.  They said, "hey I saw this on Pinterest! I said, that's my creation.  I had lots of shocked faces when they realized I was the creator behind this binder.  My heart was so full.  One lady said, "Did you know if you put the word PRINCIPAL in Pinterest, you see all of your stuff?"  Haha!  I guess my marketing has been working.

I walked away from my booth for just a minute and had a line waiting for me.  One lady was asking my friend if I was going to be coming today.  Just as I walked up I heard the conversation.  I quickly said, "Here I am!"  She about fell out to meet me.  I truly felt like a celebrity all day.  I don't think of myself as anything special but I'm so happy to be a positive mentor to so many administrators.  Thank you all for being so kind and sharing your stories with me this week.  I am truly blessed to have you cheering me on!

What's next?  My plan is to start consulting and presenting this school year.  I shared that information with you if you attended the conference.  Here's my first presentation that I am working on at the moment.  Background: Our leadership impacts student achievement.  Our leadership matters.  I will share systems that we all need to be doing each and every day to improve student achievement.  These systems are linked to our leadership position.

The Secret to a Successful Principal

The secret to a successful principal...is passion.  

Are you a passionate principal?  What does that mean and look like?  We have been told passion is what moves you.  It is your force and energy to succeed.

I'm passionate about many things- professionally.  My passion is directed to my leadership and how it impacts student achievement.  It just makes my heart happy to know my leadership skills matter.

Passion is described as a strong emotion that happens within each of us when we are doing meaningful work that makes us and the people around us feel good.

Whether you just landed your first principal position or you are a seasoned principal, passion is key. Your enthusiasm will have a big impact on moving the campus forward, flat lining or failing.

How does your passion and excitement impact your staff and students?  Your passion will fuel the campus in a positive way.  When the students and staff see you excited, they will want to join you. Others will notice your love for your job.  They will feel your energy and become motivated.  It's a simple thing- but it's a win-win for everyone.

Your teachers, your students and your parents want to be led by a passionate leader.  Ultimately, they too want to be passionate.  They may not know it but I'm sure deep down inside...they do.
You may need to light a few fires and share some joy along the way but it's possible.  You can't make someone become passionate.  However, you can create an environment that embraces it.

Passion in the workplace begins with you.  If you want teachers to follow your vision, they need to connect to you.  Passion is one of the main ingredients or traits inside every great leader.  Just think about all the famous and influential leaders- past and present.  Passion was present in their life.

How can you become passionate about what you do?  You might need to recreate that vision or remind yourself of why you started the position in the first place.  Reconnect with your goals or make new ones.  The campus is depending on you.  Your passion will led to success.

Things you can do to rekindle or get inspired with passion for your position:
1.  Grow professionally.  We all need to be challenged.
2.  Surround yourself with passionate people.
3.  Connect with other school leaders.
4.  Believe in yourself.  You are making a difference.  Your staff, student and parents are needing what you have to offer.
5.  Love what you do.
